A Joyful Community

News From the Hill

THANKS FROM THE GENERAL CHURCH
I am writing to congratulate and thank you and your church for achieving 100% of your shared ministry
apportionments in 2010. You are one of 365 churches (an increase from 358 last year!) in the New York
Annual Conference to honor your covenant with the annual conference and the larger United Methodist
Church in its mission and ministries that extend around the world. Thanks to faithful churches and lead-
ers and pastors like you, the good stewardship of our Conference Council on Finance and Administration
and a gift from the Bishop’s Partners in Mission, we were able to honor our own covenant with the Gen-
eral Church for the seventh year in a row.
Please express my gratitude to all the faithful United Methodists in your church. Because of each one of
you, we do not lose heart when times are rough, but our faith is increased because Christ is alive and
working within us to the glory of God.
In Christ,
Jeremiah J. Park

NEWS FROM THE TRUSTEES
For many years Zion’s Hill Church has been fortunate to share our Christian Education Building with the
Zion’s Hill Preschool Program. We recently renewed our lease with the Preschool and as part of the new
lease, the Preschool will occupy two rooms on the second floor of the CEB that are currently used for stor-
age.
The Trustees will hold a work day to remove items that we’ve stored in these rooms. Please join the Trus-
tees on Saturday, June 4th, 9:00 am to Noon to help clean up the CEB. Thank you!

A LETTER FROM THE FINANCE COMMITTEE
Re: Appeal for Donations for Critical Repairs and 2011 Budget Shortfall
Dear Friends,
We have the privilege of serving on the Zion’s Hill Finance Committee. In this role, we are entrusted with
the stewardship of the Church’s financial resources and we formulate the budget that underwrites our
church’s ministry.
We are writing to request donations from the congregation to be used for deferred maintenance items at
the Church, CEB, and Parsonage, and for the calendar year 2011 budget shortfall. The Board of Trustees
has identified a list of critical maintenance items that are being started now, which include:

• Repairs to the front steps of the church and the closer on the front door;
• The updating of both restrooms and the replacement of the basement level
doors to the outside of Fellowship Hall;
• New carpeting for Fellowship Hall;
• Solving of the drainage problem in Fellowship Hall;
• Paving of the lower part of the driveway to the CEB to fix the recurring pot
holes; and
• New garage doors and siding repairs to the Parsonage.

The cost of these repairs will be approximately $35,000. The Trustees, the Finance Committee, and
the Administrative Council have all agreed that these repairs are critical, and they are being started
now and will be completed in the coming weeks
In addition to these critical repairs, the 2011 church operating budget has a shortfall that is expected
to be from $25,000 to $30,000. This is the result of the overall church operating expenses (including
apportionments) being greater than our revenue and pledges.
We would prefer not to withdraw from the Johnson Fund for either the operating budget shortfall or
these critical repairs, therefore, we are asking that you consider a special gift or an increase in the
amount that you pledged previously. Families on the Trustees, Finance Committee, and Ad Council
have already committed $25,000 toward this effort. We are asking for additional donations from all
of the Zion’s Hill community for the operating budget and repairs so that there will not be a shortfall
that requires a withdrawal of funds from the Johnson Fund.
If you are able to help, please complete the tear off sheet below and return it to Judy Robinson, Finan-
cial Secretary, at the Church office. If you do make a special donation toward these items, please
note that on your check or envelope.

If you have questions or comments, feel free to contact any of us. We are grateful for your support.
